Better lighting in the main section of the library (it is quite difficult to see the book titles- especially on the lower shelves), and perhaps some more quiet reading sections with sofas. And definately more study rooms (2 is not enough, they always seem to be checked out).
I second more quiet reading areas and study rooms. Some faint music during certain hours would be nice, and with respect to those who don't like it, maybe it could be played in just the afternoons or something.
Better climate control. More contemporary design all around. Use of glass and formica.
I like the idea of art on display, the university ought to commission some of their graphic design/ digital imaging students to do some large format print art.
The Harriett K. Hutchens Library Phase II Completeion Project is included in the University's Capital Campaign. The Hutchens Library was completed and occupied in the Summer of 1996. However, the second floor of the Library was not completed. The Hutchens Library is a good library, but the University would like to make it a great library.
Several focus groups have been conducted with student and faculty representatives. However, the University Libraries' administration wants to have an ongoing dialog about the remodel and receive continuous feedback. Please let us know what you think.
